The synthesis of organotin polyether esters is rapid occurring in less than 15 seconds.  Yield is high and the products are all high polymers with the exception of the dibutyltin product with a chain length of 70. Our interest in these products is several.  First, alpha-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid, CHA, is known to be biologically active.  CHA impairs glucose oxidation by inhibiting pyruvate transport across the mitochondrial membrane. Thus, it fits one of our usual criteria for the production of anticancer drugs.  Second, CHA is often employed as a matrix material employed in MALDI MS.  Thus, we want to see what effect its presence within a polymer chain has in the creation of MALDI MS spectra.  Infrared spectroscopy shows bands associated with the production of the Sn-O and Sn-O-C(O) linkages. In general, only infrared bands consistent with non-bridging are found.  The lone exceptions are for the dimethyltin and diethyltin products that show bands associated with both bridging and non-bridging.
