Novel thiol-functionalized nanoporous polystyrene frameworks were generated through the selective cleavage of a disulfide bridge at the junction point between both blocks of newly synthesized polystyrene-block-poly(D,L-lactide) diblock copolymers. Starting from a disulfide-containing dual initiator purposely designed, well-defined diblock copolymers were prepared by combining atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene and ring-opening polymerization of D,L-lactide. After macroscopic orientation of the copolymer precursors through channel die processing and subsequent reductive degradation of the disulfide bridge, thiol-functionalized porous polymers were obtained. Further �click� thiol-ene-mediated functionalization of thiol-coated pore walls within nanoporous frameworks was successfully implemented.
