Several 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles were synthesized in high yield from organonitriles andsodium azide in water/isopropanol mixtures. The reactions were catalyzed byrare-earth metal catalysts such as scandium triflate and ytterbium triflatehydrate and performed utilizing microwave heating.
