Vapochromic materials show reversible color changes in response to volatile organic compounds. The discovery of vapochromic materials is mainly serendipitous, and prediction of vapochromic properties of materials prior to synthesis seems a distant possibility. This problem is deepened by the lack of unambiguous structural information, as well as knowledge of the energetics of the vapochromic response. Here we report thermodynamic properties of a series of vapochromic complexes.
