Recent studies in the chemistry of group 5 complexes have shown a variety of unique reactivities from a dimethyl imido complex, including C-F bond activation of fluoroarenes. The reactive low-valent intermediate involved is stabilized electronically and sterically by the diisopropylaryl �-diketiminato, or �nacnac�, ligand. To better control the selectivity of products formed from this intermediate, the nacnac ligand can be tuned by its aryl substituents. With this intent, we report the synthesis of the dichloro-substituted analog of this ligand to niobium and tantalum imido complexes, and compare their key structural properties.
