In undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory courses, students are often taught how to interpret NMR spectra without actually gaining experience acquiring their own data.  This is due to a number of factors, including the time required to learn the software and the limited number of instruments available.  Our current practice involves small groups of students observing data collection by teaching assistants, followed by data processing.  We aim to streamline the process and increase student involvement in data collection by asking students to watch an animated video of a spectrum being acquired and processed.  This presentation will present the results obtained when piloting the project in the summer 2014 term.  The preparation and use of these animated tutorial videos will be presented for both IR and NMR instruments, with possible extension to other major instruments used in our courses and research.
