Conotoxins are mini proteins that are isolated from marine snails. They have shown activity as selective ion channel inhibitors. Therefore, they present potential as pharmaceutical drugs for the treatment of neurological disorders. The goal of this research is to develop synthetic routes to new cysteine protecting groups. These cysteine derivatives will be used in a strategy forfolding disulfide rich proteins, including conotoxins, into their native structure.
