The eudistomin family of �-carboline natural products has previously been reported to have cytotoxic activity against prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, including cancer cells. Eudistomin U is the only natural product in this class with an aromatic ring at the 1-position of the pyridine ring. We will report a unique, divergent cross coupling strategy that has resulted in the synthesis of 1-aryl and 1-heteroaryl eudistomin U analogs in good yield. Preliminary evaluation of the analogs' cytotoxicity and binding to DNA will also be reported.
