The effects of surfactants on Co-based nanoparticles in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) reaction are systematically investigated in this work. By using Polyvinylpolypyrrolidone (PVP) and oleic acid (OA) as surfactants, the different sizes of Co nanoparticles are prepared and evaluated in FTS reaction. We firstly use dialysis method in separating Co nanoparticles from the solution with cations and anions. It is delighted to find that Co nanoparticles separated by dialysis keep the original morphology after separation and has the highest FTS activity, as well as relatively high C5+ selectivity. The C5+ selectivity is improved 11% compared with usual centrifuge separation method. Using Transmission electron microscope and X-Ray powder diffraction, the FTS performance of different Co nanoparticles is correlated with the sizes of samples. The dialysis method used in the present work might provide a general way for the separation of metal nanoparticles, and exhibit good performance in probing reaction.
