<br/>Since 2008, photoredox catalysis has witnessed a dramatic resurgence of interest for organic synthesis. Taking advantages of the well-studied photochemistry of transition metal photocatalysts such as [Ru(bpy)3]2+, many important organic transformations have been made possible using visible light as the driving force. However, the scarcity, high price, and low recyclability of precious metals (e.g. Ru and Ir) impose a significant limit on the scale-up synthesis. To this end, π-conjugated POFs can, in principle, be developed as a new class of heterogeneous photoredox catalysts that are easy to access, inexpensive, recyclable, and free of precious metals. Here, the photoredox catalytic study of a highly porous carbazolic organic framework, Cz-POF-1, will be discussed. Due to the strong electron donating ability and extended π-conjugation, upon visible light excitation, Cz-POF-1 exhibits excellent catalytic efficiency toward three prototypic organic transformations, demonstrating a bright future of Cz-POFs as a new generation of metal-free heterogeneous photoredox catalysts for organic synthesis.
