The role of bimetallic cooperativity in hydroformylation and aldehyde-water shift catalysis will be discussed. The dramatic effect of water and H<sub>2</sub>/CO ratios on our dirhodium tetraphosphine catalyst system will be presented along with <i>in situ </i>FT-IR and NMR studies, along with DFT computational work. Deactivation issues with the catalyst system in acetone have lead to the design and synthesis of a new more strongly chelating and bridging tetraphosphine ligand. Work with this new P4 ligand is on-going and will also be presented.
