<br/>The sugar contents of twenty (20) popularly consumed energy drinks available in the Nigerian market were determined by refractocmetric and densitometric instrumental methods. The energy drinks analyzed had sugar contents of between 1.60g – 24.50g/100ml and 1.64 – 24.50g/100ml for refractometric and densitometric determinations, respectively. The results obtained showed that all the energy drinks contain sugar but at varying concentrations with control sample (soda or carbonated water) having sugar concentration of 0.10g/100ml and 0.20g/100ml for refractometric and densitometric measurements, respectively. Evaluation of these results revealed that Nigerians may have been consuming more sugar than the actual energy provided by these drinks when values obtained are compared with average daily intakes (ADI’s) and recommended daily allowances (RDA’s) provided for normal sugar requirements in the body for healthy living, by WHO/FAO regulations.
