Discotic liquid crystal is a hot spot of research in the last decades - it is not only applicable in the area of display applications but also organic semiconductors for its π stacking pattern which allow charge transfer. We recently announced a new derivative of Mallory type photocyclization - the photocyclodehydrofluorination (PCDHF), which could access to a large range of fluorinated polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons directly. At here, we will introduce a new synthetic route of triphenylene-based discotic liquid crystals via this methodology.
