Transition metal coordination complexes are widely studied as catalysts due to their readily accessible electronic properties and facile tuning of physical properties. This research explores the synthesis of 2-picolinamide ligands and their copper(II) compounds. Initial studies have shown interesting optical properties of the 2-picolinamide ligands and their precursors that will be tuned via substitution to modify the electronic properties of the ligand as well as steric accessibility of the Cu(II) binding site and general solubility of the ligands and resulting complexes. Successfully synthesized complexes will be screened for catalytic activity in oxidation of a variety of substrates.
