There is growing interest in anticancer agents targeting telomeres. This is a viable target as telomerase activity is enhanced in cancerous cells. Inhibition of this activity is possible with G-quadruplex specific ligands. The current research involves the preparation and study of a series of dibenz[c,h]acridines that have the potential to bind and stabilize G-quadruplex structures and therefore inhibit cancer cell viability. Computational analysis of these compounds indicates binding that is greater than known acridine-based G-quadruplex ligands. Variability in the substitution patterns along the acridine nucleus will be used to explore the binding of this ligand. The synthesis and computational analysis of these ligands will be discussed.​
