Hydrogen is a clean, carbon-free fuel with the highest specific enthalpy of combustion of any chemical fuel. As the reductive side of water splitting, the synthesis of H2 from aqueous protons requires, at a minimum, a visible light absorber or photosensitizer (PS), a H2-forming catalyst and a source of electrons. In this study we report H2 production using CdSe QD as the sensitizer and molecular Co,Ni and Fe complexes as co-catalysts. The present study investigates the H2 production by photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic methods. Both methods produce hydrogen in high turn over frequencies(TON) and are stable for more than 16 hours.
