Traditional bonds, valence and dihedral angles are not always the ideal coordinate system for exploring potential energy surfaces. The present contribution describes a recently developed generalized coordinate definition and a transformation algorithm that allows the user to define coordinates from a library of standard mathematical functions with the same flexibility that they can define basis sets.
