Fluorinated functional groups represented by CF3 and F now attract many scientists due to their high potential of meeting drug candidates and optoelectronic materials. Among them, trifluoromethanesulfonyl group (SO2CF3, triflyl, Tf) is of great interest due to its powerful electron withdrawing effect. Indeed, aryl trifluoromethyl sulfones, aryl triflones, are used as common building blocks for the variety of materials. These compounds can be prepared by the oxidation of aryl trifluoromethyl sulfides. However, the direct introduction of triflyl group into the aromatic rings is still a challenge. In this presentation, the resent progress of this topic from our group will be presented.
