In the first topic, a variety of new C–C and C–S bond forming reactions catalyzed by palladium complexes that involve in situ formation of the organometallic component via deprotonation of weakly acidic hydrogens (pKa as high as 35!) will be presented.  In the second, strategies to broaden chelation controlled additions to carbonyls will be outlined, including α- and β-silyloxy aldehydes and ketones, α-chloro imines, and even β,γ-unsaturated ketones.
