Fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3D printing is increasingly becoming a vital tool in many industries for its ability to produce a wide range of physical parts quickly. Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is one of the most popular materials for FFF process. In FFF, ABS is melted then extruded through the print head and deposited to a substrate layer by layer. However, the quality of FFF printed parts lack the strength, toughness and reliability of parts manufactured traditionally because of their poor interlayer adhesion. The fact that the materials need to be melt processed during printing make it difficult to use crosslinked polymers directly for FFF 3D printing.<br/>This presentation will discuss modifications on ABS, by employing thiol-ene and dynamic covalent chemistry, for improved adhesion between interlayers without compromising the melting processibility as well as the strategies on FFF printing modified ABS with consequently lower T<sub>g</sub> and modulus.
