We have synthesized the quinoline-2-carboxaldehyde tert-butyl-thiosemicarbazone (QCA-tBTSC) ligand and characterized it via 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy, and we have also obtained the x-ray crystal structure of this ligand. This mono-anionic tridentate QCA-tBTSC ligand has been used to form a square planar metal complex with Pd2+, using either potassium tetrachloropalladate(II) or dichlorobis(benzonitrile)palladium(II). This work will also show the NMR characterization of the d8 Pd complex. We have performed anti-proliferative MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) studies of the QCA-tBTSC ligand and the [Pd(QCA-tBTSC)Cl] complex using seven different microbes in order to determine their anti-microbial properties. The [Pd(QCA-tBTSC)Cl] complex is highly active against gram positive bacteria.
