Bimetallic interactions have been shown to facilitate CO2 reduction in a variety of synthetic systems, and is also believed to be important in the active site of the CO Dehydrogenase enzyme. We have investigated this cooperative interaction using a modular ligand set. Our general approach has been to pair an electron rich transition metal with a more Lewis acidic transition metal or non-redox active metal. Our efforts towards cooperative activation and reduction of CO2 will be described.
