Vitrimers are a new class of permanently cross-linked networks that contain dynamic covalent bonds that can undergo associative exchange reactions. As a result, the topology of these networks can be dynamic under certain conditions, which allow these materials to relax stress or to be reshaped and recycled just like thermoplastic while being insoluble like thermosets even at high temperatures. The concept of vitrimer was first introduced with epoxy-based systems relying on transesterification of beta-hydroxy ester as associative exchange reaction.1-3 We have been exploring recently the possibility to extend this concept both to other associative exchange reactions and polymer matrices.
