Transformation of small dinitrogen and carbon dioxide to the valuable chemicals, such as nitrogen containing heterocycles or multicarbon acids, respectively, is an attractive but complicated goal because of low cost and high thermodynamic stability of starting materials. Both processes involved multiple electron and proton transfer steps and demands rational choice of metal and ligand design for creating a catalyst. We are interested in chemistry of pincer complexes where metal center is strongly supported by tridentate ligands with different functionalities. Bis(5-tertbutyl-2H-pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine (H2L) is our ligand precursor of choice because of optimal combination of redox activity (pyridine ring) and proton responsivity (pyrazole ring). We also chose iron as metal center because of its role in multiple biological processes, related to our chemistry, low cost and position in the center of first row of d-metal that makes it flexible for multielectron process. Reaction between H2L and Fe2Mes4 was used to generate coordinatively unsaturated species that contains only metal and L, together with liberation of free mesitylene. We expect that this formally 14-e monomeric species could be stabilized by formation of dimer. Reactions of “LFe” with different two-electron donors, such as amines, isonitriles as well as small molecules, H2, N2, CO2 etc will be reported. Products of reduction of activation products with KC8 will also be discussed
