Built from Zr-based clusters and carboxylate organic linkers, UiO-type metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are among the most robust structures in the MOF family with high thermal and chemical stabilities under various conditions. UiO frameworks with secondary orthogonal functional groups can be post-synthetically modified by first-row transition metals, leading to active, sustainable, and cheap catalysts for organic reactions. Site isolation effect in the MOF catalyst is believed to diminish bi-molecular decomposition and stabilize the active catalyst.  In this talk, I will discuss our recent efforts on developing earth-abundant base metal catalysts based on UiO MOFs for hydrogenation, hydrosilation, and other important organic transformations.
