L<sub>2</sub>Pd(0) and L<sub>2</sub>Pd(II) complexes, have been identified as efficient catalyst systems for the Heck and Sonogashira coupling of a variety of aryl bromides  and aryl/heteroaryl chlorides with excellent yields, under relatively low Pd loadings. To better understand the superior activity of the current catalyst system from a structure–activity relationship point of view, preliminary mechanistic studies have been conducted to better understand the cross-coupling pathway of Heck and Sonogashira coupling. The details of the study will be presented.
