The pursuit of new electrode material has been drawing enormous attention recently to accomplish asymmetric supercapacitors with substantially increased electrical energy storage (EES) capacity. Many efforts have been devoted to produce hybrid materials based on conductive carbon nanomaterials, metal oxides and conducting polymers. However, the energy densities for these asymmetric cells are still largely limited owing to the intrinsic low energy storage capacity of the negative electrodes, mainly composed of high-surface-area activated carbons. Herein, a novel platform of porous carbon structure is proposed for the first time to address this issue, and it opens doors for next-generation high energy supercapacitors.
