Pt-Co nanocrystals(NCs) have been prepared in various atmospheres (air, N2 and H2) with different pressures. The structure of Pt-Co NCs is sensitive to the atmosphere and pressure. Pt-Co nanocubes were synthesized in air at ambient pressure (AP) condition while flake-like PtO2 NCs were produced in air at 1 MPa. Pt-Co dendritic NCs were both prepared in H2 at AP and 1 MPa. Pt-Co spherical NCs were aggregated when synthesized in N2 at AP but presented chain-like structure as the pressure of N2 increased to 1 MPa. Pt-Co alloy NCs especially prepared in N2 at 1 MPa showed superior specific activity and stability in comparison with commercial Pt black catalysts in the electro-oxidation of methanol.
