Rings play essential roles in molecular recognition and drug design. In this presentation, a range of topics will be discussed such as rings as bio-isosteres and modulation of the electronic properties of arenes to improve chemical properties and protein - ligand interactions. Macrocycles will also be discussed in terms of inherent challenges in their design and specific examples of their successful application in drug discovery.
