The delivery of surface activated chemistries is a critical aspect of enhanced performance under boundary lubricating conditions. The delivery of these typically oil-incompatible systems by conventional blending techniques provides a major challenge to their utilization in commercial fluids. Lubrizol-proprietary controlled release lubricant additive gel technology and associative solubilization have been shown to be effective methods for delivery of superior surface active friction modifier chemistries that would otherwise not be possible due to solubility limitations. These technologies are under development as means to improve fuel economy and durability in engine oils.
