The beneficial influence of fluorine substitution is unquestionable in drug discovery. Numerous fluorine-containing sub-motifs are employed, each fullfilling a distinct function to improve drug efficacy. It is reasonable to anticipate that structural diversity in 18F-tagging could also have a positive impact on radiotracer development for Positron Emission Tomography imaging. This lecture will discuss how we are intending to expand the range of 18F-tags for labeling with radiochemistry inspired from the various catalytic manifolds exploited for late stage fluoro-functionalization.
