Xenitorin A is a compound that selectively kills lung cancer cells. Unfortunately, its only known source provides the material in very limited quantity in a non-renewable manner. As such, a successful <i>de novo</i> synthesis of the compound will address a significant and currently unmet need that would allow for thorough studies of its biological activity. This poster outlines our ongoing work to prepare xenitorin A in an enantiomerically pure form. We will describe our efforts to utilize an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction to build the xenitorin framework where in four of the five stereogenic carbon centers in the molecule would be established by remote stereo-induction.
