Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and zeta potential measurements were used to study the aggregation behavior of humic substances over time at concentration, electrolytic conductivity, and pH values comparable to rainwater/groundwater/surface water. A comprehensive concomitant study of intensity-, volume-, and number-based particle size distributions (PSDs) of fulvic and humic self-aggregation is presented for Suwannee River Fulvic Acid (SRFA), Suwannee River Humic Acid (SRHA), Aldrich Humic Acid (AHA), and an AHA fulvic extract. Particle size distributions (PSDs) were observed in three population ranges:  &lt; 100 nm, 100–1000 nm, and &gt; 1 µm. Abiotic reversible self-assembly was demonstrated. The environmental significance of these results is to inform our understanding of mechanisms of ultrafiltration membrane fouling during water treatment and the transport of organic matter through the microbial loop.<br/>
