There is a crucial need for controlling the three-dimensional distribution of organic semiconducting materials in organic-based optoelectronic devices. This need is most significant in the area of organic photovoltaics (OPVs), since the rate of electron-hole pair dissociation and the efficiency of charge carrier extraction is mainly influenced by the polymer morphology. The necessary control over the nanoscale morphology has been investigated using self-assembly of conjugated polymer nanoparticles wherein active layer comprise of either individual donor and acceptor nanoparticles or the donor-acceptor blend nanoparticles.<br/>Here, we describe a novel covalent synthesis method to make charged donor-acceptor core-shell nanoparticles using poly(3-hexylthiophene) as a donor core and Rhodamine B as an acceptor shell. There is not much work has been reported on incorparting Rhodamine B as an acceptor for organic solar cells. We will prepare different sizes of nanoparticles and evaluate their thin film morphologies, crystallinity, optoelectronic response, and eventually evaluate the photovoltaic performance.
