Since the chemistry community extends internationally, it is important to experience how research is conducted outside one's own country. This past summer I was provided with the opportunity to experience life in the green synthetic organic chemistry lab of Professor Luigi Vaccaro at the Università degli Studi di Perugia in Perugia, Italy. In this laboratory, I focused on the development of efficient and sustainable methodology for the Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction which is heavily used in a variety of fields. This present research focused on developing a sustainable and efficient protocol for the Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction. This experience was enhanced by my lab members, the beautiful Italian people I met in my travels, and the beautiful scenery which fills this amazing country.
