Summer enrichment programs have been found to be valuable learning experiences for all learners. They can vary in scope, location and levels of difficulty. This has also been found to be true for students with disabilities. In summer 2014, the National Federation of the Blind of Michigan partnered with the University of Michigan, Dearborn to host a summer enrichment program, called "Summer Science Spectacular," for blind students. This program involved five days of hands-on science learning activities in all areas of science. The students also participated in social events in the evenings as well as hands-on science experiences in the Dearborn, Michigan area. The students ranged in age from middle school to high school and were recruited from across the state of Michigan. This enrichment program represents how an academic institution can work successfully with a not-for-profit blindness organization to provide a wealthy experience for blind students.
