The term ‘foldamer’ was initially described as any polymer with a strong tendency to adopt a specific compact conformation, which generates ‘active sites’ via precise three-dimensional arrangement of functional groups and correlates to some potential functions.1 Novel peptidomimetic foldamers have received substantial attention by virtue of their ability to adopt specific and predictable secondary structures. The research in our group has focused on aminoxy peptide foldamer and various types of aminoxy acid building blocks have been intensivelystudied.2 To further explore their biological applications, aminoxy peptides should be water soluble, tolerate various side chains, and have well-defined conformations.3 Herein, a new class of hybrid α-aminoxy/cyclic β2,3-aminoxy peptides has been constructed and found to adopt novel secondary structures, which may serve as a rational template for drug design.
