The synthesis of a series of multi-dentate podand ligands is described, each incorporating multi-ethylene-amine chains, and biphenyl end groups.  The ligands are being studied for their ability to increase the solubility of Lewis acids in non-polar, non-aqueous media.  These compounds function as ligands in coordination complexes, and may hold potential as a low energy means of removing pollutants from waste water streams.<br/>
