An amide-derived N,N,N-Fe(II) complex catalyzes the hydroboration of olefins under ambient conditions. Alkylation of a remote site on the ligand backbone was used to introduce a distinct electronic environment at the metal, without rearrangement of the primary coordination environment. The activity and regioselectivity in the catalytic hydroboration of olefins was found to be regulated by this remote modification.
