MALDI MS was conducted on the polyether ester product of dioctyltin dichloride and CHA under a variety of conditions. Ion fragments to two and three units containing 3 and 4 tin atoms are found. The isotopic abundance pattern is consistent with the presence of tin atoms in the ion fragment clusters. These results are also consistent with the proposed polymer structure repeat unit. Further, ion fragment clusters are found employing the polymer itself, presumably the polymer providing the matrix material. Additional results are given when sodium sulfate is added, when graphite is added as a matrix, and when CHA is added. The results are similar to those obtained when no matrix is added.
