Cuprous oxide (Cu<sub>2</sub>O) is a promising semiconductor for p-type dye-sensitized solar cells. We have developed a polymer templating technique which allows for the electrochemical growth of nanostructured cuprous oxide. We have also synthesized electron-accepting molecular dyes which we incorporate into solar cell devices. We observed that both the cuprous oxide and dyes contributed to photocurrent in photoelectrochemical cells. This talk will present the material preparation and characterization, dye synthesis and characterization, and photoelectrochemical studies.
