Plasmonic nanoparticles are characterized by their exciting optical properties which drive from their localized surface plasmon resonance spectrum (LSPR) and their strong plasmon field. For utilization in a wide variety of applications, optimization of the plasmon field and control of the LSPR spectrum position is required. Plasmonic nanoparticles of isotropic shape have relatively weak plasmon field and tuning their LSPR peak is very limited compared to the anisotropic shapes. Homogenous growth of the metallic nanocrystals produces isotropic shaped nanoparticles. In order to synthesize anisotropic shapes nanoparticles, the symmetry of the growth of the nanocrystal has to be broken. Herein, a new technique is introduced based on the implantation of multiple reducing agents of different strengths to break the symmetry of the growth of silver nanocrystal. Through this technique, silver nanoplates with tunable LSPR spectrum can be obtained. The optical properties and the mechanism anisotropic growth of the silver nanocrystal will be discussed.
