Chiral semiconductor quantum dots (chiral QDs) possess attractive yet modular structural and electronic properties absent in bulk materials. Optical activity in QDs can originate from several distinct phenomena that can concurrently modulate the observed chiroptical and optical properties. We will present a simple way to prepare chiral QDs. Our method is based on post-synthetic ligand functionalization of achiral QDs by optically active capping ligands. Organic capping ligands can be used not only to trigger but also to control induced chiroptical activity of QDs.[1] Enantiomers of chiral ligands induce mirror-image chirality, and chirality can be further modulated by the chemical composition of capping ligands and the size of QDs.
