Atmospheric CO2 concentrations have skyrocketed due to excessive use of fossil fuels. The conversion of CO2 to useful chemicals takes advantage of the currently abundant CO2 point sources to produce value added chemicals. Copper metal has been shown to be the most useful metal catalyst, as it produces hydrocarbon products in the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction. Herein, we report a class of Cu nanostructures and their alloys for their selectivity towards C2 fuels. We will also discuss the possible mechanistic pathways from result obtained using in-situ Raman Spectroscopy during the electroreduction process.
