Conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) are in ever growing interest due to the vast array of applications available. Their large surface areas and electronic properties, as well as the achievable post-modification via the introduction of functional groups, make them a desirable platform for gas uptake and catalytic processes. Taking a rational approach to their development, we can obtain a greater understanding of how their structures are formed and how the functionality and properties can be utilised for such applications. However, due to the random arrangement and amorphous structures, obtaining a replicate to the synthetic products proves a challenge. Models of partial sections give us insight to an indirect characterisation of structures; giving surface area, pore volume and density. As well as the rate of porosity formation, and the extent to which the pores form. Following up from the synthesis of pyrene based CMPs[ii] using molecular dynamic simulations; we gather a better understanding of the structural and physical properties.
