The presentation of functional groups and polymer structure play key roles in the interactions of specific ions with the macromolecule. Here we we will discuss ion specific effects on interfacial water structure and polymer organization around hydrophobic moieties to understand how weakly hydrated ions interact with these groups in the presence of adjacent polar sites. Both spectroscopic and thermodynamic data will be presented.
