The principle of electrodeposition coatings is transferred to unusual materials like graphene and to a fully biobased concept working with enzymes.<br/>(1) Hexamethoxymethylmelamine (HMMM) is converted to anisotropic cationic nanoparticles. These nanoparticles are used for the exfoliation of graphite. Stable cationic monolayers of graphene sheets are obtained. The electrodeposition leads to structured films with a conductive graphene layer and a phase separated melamine layer. The formation of cationic melamine particles, the interaction of melamine particles with graphene, the depositon process and the phase separation during the film formation is investigated.<br/>(2) With the deposition of casein and melanine two cross over technologies are presented, technical processes are performed with purely biological materials. Casein is deposited on surfaces using the enzyme chymosin as a trigger. Chymosin diffuses from the surface into the solution, thus coagulating the casein micelles. Films of casein are formed directly on the surface of the substrate. The chymosin can also be tethered to the surface. In this case a selective localized deposition of casein is observed. Melanin is polymerized in several steps from L-3,4-Dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA) catalyzed by the enzyme tyrosinase. This process is transferred to an enzyme moderated deposition process with tyrosinase as the trigger. Highly structured films with arrays of melanine nanoparticles are obtained.
