An enantioselective addition of heteroaryl/aryl potassium trifluoroborate salts to heteroaryl/aryl-appended enones forming bis-heteroaryl/aryl compounds is herein described. High product yields and high enantioselectivities are achieved via 3,3’-(C7F7)2-BINOL catalysis. Preliminary mechanistic studies reveal that fluoride dissociation in the anhydrous conditions is necessary. This catalyst system has been applied to the synthesis of different enantiopure heteroaryl/aryl compounds as well as the synthesis of discoipyrrole D.
