Microwave accelerated synthesis has been applied to a variety of selective non-hydrogenation reductions of aryl alkenes. The use of a microwave allows for high yielding reactions in milder conditions and faster reaction times. Substituted aryl rings were coupled to 6-carbon fluoro-alkynes and subsequently reduced using a palladium catalyst. These methods were applied to the synthesis of the positron emission tomography ligands F<sup>18</sup>-Fallypride and F<sup>18</sup>-Nifrolidine.
