Oxatriquinanetriol, a hydroxyalkyloxonium ion, has been synthesized and characterized. Oxatriquinanetriol is stable at room temperature but is solvolyzed by acetone and acetonitrile when heated. Deprotonation of oxatriquinanetriol has given the first example of a trialkyloxonium alkoxide zwitterion.
